Week 235, race 1 of 2, September 21: If I can’t have Zoo, I don’t want nobody baby (Kansas City Zoo Run for the Sea Lions 4 mile)

Some things work the way you hope, some things don’t. You go with it. The “didn’t work out” list: the sweet inflatable disco balls came with a straw to blow them up, which I lost in the time since delivery. Dang. Also, the fan that sat at the USPS too long to arrive for Tiblow Trot? Turns out it’s 99% impossible to attach it and get it to stay put for more than a few steps of running. It hid behind my front fins and was more versatile when I could point it wherever it was needed. And I needed it everywhere, because it got HOT and muggy inside that much fabric. And, let’s face it, the Zoo Run is always a challenge even without wet wood and mud to contend with. Glad to just finish. The “worked out” list: the look was EXACTLY what I wanted. Coming straight from home (not a hotel) for the first time in months gave me plenty of time to get the makeup right, and thanks to my crafty mom who made the flippers with material from JoAnn. Could only find a few run friends before or after due to rainy annoyances. I got to be in a few pics with strangers, including tiny sea lion fans. Official race photos to come whenever.
