Starting with a tame entry in the Westport St. Patrick’s Day 4-miler in 2013, Andrew had already build up some steam in the world of costumed running. The Heartland 39.3 Series in 2014 saw him show up in rockin’ tights (Rock the Parkway), a Munchkin (Olathe half marathon), and a cow tutu (Running with the Cows). A color run here, a biker Santa there, and plenty of Murica every July, and Andrew started to gain a reputation as “that guy” with the silly costumes and awesome music to share. The last races before Everything Changed – candy-pants Cupid, undies and wings, and the Statue of Liberty.
In March 2020, when the Westport St. Patrick’s Day race fell to COVID-19 cancellations, Andrew decided to run the course alone (A.K.A. virtually) in the costume he had ready. And, just like with every race, there was a killer playlist to match. The next week, a costume that was bumped from a previous race came out of mothballs. After that, with no organized races in sight for the foreseeable future, the costumes and music kept coming, and a legend was born.
