Week 231, race 2 of 2, August 25: Where do we go now? (Head for the Cure 5K)

Great atmosphere, if you dig huge crowds, fantastic cause. I’ve seen several friends musing that the event has outgrown the venue as a run event, even a combo run and walk. I’ve never felt super crowded on the course itself, but there are just SO many people walking, especially the family teams. What can be done? In keeping with the flower theme I’ve used since my first HFTC in 2022, I picked the rose. Of course, a simpler version was in the works with just green shirt and tights to go with the headpiece. Lots of songs about roses: A Kiss from, La Vie en, My Wild Irish, Has Its Thorn, etc. I often do a listen-through a few weeks out and found that it was just lacking oomph. Except for the Guns N Roses song. I thought, I can work with that. A trip to Joann and lots of precision cutting and hot glue later, and here’s the result. The glue doesn’t stand up to washing, and it was too stuck on to salvage, so the shirt was a one-and-done. The rose may come back someday. Lots of fun wrong costume guesses: Jolly Green Giant (man, you hit 6′ and that’s all people see), a sunflower (because those are red), and a Christmas tree. Not this time. And sorry, random kid, the cap came off the dollar store watergun, so it wasn’t holding anything to squirt you with.
