An interesting one in memory of an interesting occupant of Belton’s cemetery (see here). The day started far too early: lightning struck the hotel, setting off some alarm in the hall and frying the elevators. I “think” we went back to sleep, more or less. The storm’s passing left it super swampy, as is usual anymore. I got in a few miles before, and startled several friends who almost never see me out of costume. After I got some of the warmup sweat toweled off, we got the hatchet stuck on and off we went. (Anti-kudos to the guy who not only drove on the very wet grass to get a choice parking spot right by the start, but nearly hit a runner who was crossing the pedestrian-only path. WTH dude?!) The course itself was part picturesque lake, part drab parking lot. This was a very small event, and the current course won’t allow much future growth with the out-and-back sharing a pretty narrow trail for a bit. Also – pass on left! If we’re slower, we’ll get over if you let us.
