Week 177, race #2, July 30: Past the point of no return, might as well run the Midnight Run 5K

Normal people go to sleep, Saturday night or otherwise, and stay in bed. I am not normal. I get a hotel room, lay down from 8:30-11 PM, get up and run a 5K in 71° dewpoint, THEN try to go back to sleep. Of course, that bit in between is the really fun stuff. It’s a hardcore crowd for the most part. Then there’s the teenager who must have gotten talked into running last-minute, unless he just always runs in Birkenstocks and crew socks. Turns out the guy in the huge red hat was NOT auditioning for Don Juan Triumphant. He also has quite the tale of seeking to do a Polar Plunge in all 50 states, and he’s super close. Which reminds me, stay tuned in a few months as I reveal my plans in that vein.
