Was it a galaxy far, far away? Or just Lenexa? It was an adventure, whatever it was. Many younglings, a few padawans, and some oddly familiar faces from a long time ago (or far, far in the future). I ran most of the course with a run pal who could remember every part of Episode IV from the music on my playlist. Carrying a lightsaber was about the same as other props, except for the cool sound effects this made. It fell apart right after I crossed the finish, so that stank like a womprat’s toot. I was planning to get some extra mileage after, but saw that some streets I’d have used lacked sidewalks, plus I just needed a super light weekend for once. After grabbing some breakfast and packing up, we joined run friends to share stories and remember Scott Green, the Bearded Runner, who as it turns out was a huge Star Wars fan. This day was a fitting and beautiful tribute to his impact on so many. Even if that meant shivering in shorts and wrapped in a blanket and seat towel because I didn’t think about how to dress after the race.
