The show goes on the (gravel) road! I was hanging out with my church’s middle school youth group on our annual fall retreat, back after a missed year in 2020. The cows of the Flint Hills of southeast Kansas, and a few pickup drivers, got to hear some sweet tunes from my middle school years (1984-86).
Breaking down this tubular outfit:
- My hair was incorrigible, wouldn’t part right, and perpetually greasy.
- When you have braces in middle school, smiling for photos is a closed-mouth deal.
- I never did, but the cool kids always popped the collar.
- In those days, it was Izod or gag me with a spoon.
- No idea why, but guys always wore the shirt untucked, the front side down, but the back side up to uncover the assets, I guess.
- Rolled the sweats, obviously.
- No way I could have run with it, but THE shoe was a boat shoe, coiled laces, and never any socks.
