Week 221, June 15: Be honest, does this plaque make my bass look big? (Clinton Historic Half Marathon & 5K)

I had no expectations on this one, except downgrading from the half to the 5K after Hospital Hill when it was clear I needed to ease up on training load. Good thing, too, because the move last weekend felt pretty close to a full marathon as far as needed recovery. I took 4 full days off from running before a shakeout last night. There was no confusion whatsoever on what this costume was, and the race director thanked me personally for matching the theme so perfectly. It was stupid-humid but not blazing hot, so I decided from the start to keep an easy pace and not push at all. Still, a small pack meant I came first in my age group (and I wasn’t the only one in it)! These AG awards… seriously, how cool is this?! A long but fun day overall as a gang of us gathered mid-afternoon to celebrate a birthday in the group. Did the Clinton runners realize we missed a big storm in KC?
