Week 181, race #2, August 27: Ain’t he havin’ some fun now (Head for the Cure 5K)

So. Many. People! Over 5,200 runners and walkers registered and about half that finished. The walkers alone could be a huge separate event. I saw a handful of my usual peeps, including one dear momma who does Head for the Cure with her precious survivor son. Seems he’s a fan of my costume menagerie! I immediately had issues with the top section of the “head” popping off (you know my temper), and got something rigged with borrowed safety pins and my cooling towel. Turns out the green upper part wasn’t showing most of the race, but you can still tell what I was. There was a gal that hung with me to sing along for several songs, then came up for a pic after the race. But a different gal – with a similar look – wanted me to “TURN THAT DOWN” around the last mile. AITA for just moving away from her and half-calling “um, run faster?!” Can’t please everybody, but that 0.019% that had to comment still bugs me. The announcer/bullhorn guy at the finish said I was a “warrior” for running in something that couldn’t have been cold. Overall a great morning, just super peopley.
