It was weird one. I had ordered an ice vest that arrived just as we left for the hotel, where I discovered the directions were entirely in Chinese. My translator app gave me a word salad that wasn’t helpful, so scratch that part. A trip to the pool found my left ankle giving me lots of grief. I moved it around underwater and did some calf raises, and it was pretty much OK. Back in the room, I was walking between windows (in our corner room with the amazing view!) and ran my bare foot into one of the chairs. Not my night! It felt decent and looked basically OK in the morning, so off I went. To be called “Elvis” more times than I could count.
History lesson: ABBA won the Eurovision song contest in 1974, also the year the first Hospital Hill Run was held. It was warm and extremely humid, but a neck fan and my cooling towel from Running With The Cows kept me alive. Somebody at the start area knew I was “that cosplay guy” from Kyle giving me shout-outs on the Back of the Pack podcast! And as I was nearing the finish, somebody recognized my wife as “the wife of the cosplay runner.” (Technically they said Elvis. Sheesh.) I saw a good chunk of my run fam before heading back to the room. For very good reason, I was scared to take off my sock and see how bad it looked. Yep. Pretty sure the toe is broken. Time to rest up, since we runners are so fantastic at doing that.
