Week 167, May 20: Who are you calling a jerk? (Merriam Turkey Creek Festival 5K)

I hadn’t done this race before, although it’s been around for 35+ years. I found out it used to be named Killer Hill. There’s a reason for that, as Mile 2 was giant ups and downs to rival the course at Tiblow Trot. Even so, I pushed my pace and got 3rd in my age group. I thought I could get my banana and split… (dah dum, ching). I did not expect to wait over an hour to get the extra hardware! They decided to have all participants finish before doing the kids’ sprint and then awards. Honestly, the momentum was gone and many of even the kids had already done the 5K and were on to pancakes or the actual Turkey Creek Festival that started at 10. It was fun seeing a number of young participants, but they didn’t have any race etiquette at all. Kind of like a moving obstacle course except the batteries run down before it’s over. Anyway, glad to get this one into a race at last. The theme was that Merriam was first incorporated in the 1950s. And if you think your devices aren’t listening, check out the “job leads” email I got on Thursday!
