Week 164, race #1, April 29: I’ve been everywhere, man (Top City half marathon)

It’s funny how going “to Peka” (as my younger sibs said) felt like going to the Big City when I was a kid in a college town, but now it feels almost quaint. We stayed at the Ramada where my grandparents would stay when they arrived or departed on Amtrak. Grandma would often sit in the coffee shop – it’s now closed. After seeing a chunk of my KC folks, it was time to get this awkward kit together. I would not put anything in the fake fanny pack next time, as the Gu packs jostled around loudly the whole time. Otherwise this was a great one. Perfect weather, relatively flat course except for a surprise hill to finish, historic neighborhoods (Brown v. Board Museum and the Evel Knievel Museum), and I found out that someone might call out my name even far from home. The course ran by the home of a friend from high school and her hubs called out even though she wasn’t 100% sure it was me. (But come on, who else could it have been?) I really needed a port-a-potty that mercifully finally came about mile 7. I will look to do this one again. When you check out the playlist, it’s one version of “Ultimate Road Trip” when you listen in order.
