Week 140, race/run #1: Don’t sit under the apple tree – it’s cold there too (Veterans Day 5K)

Only a short drive from home, so I got to stay warm until the last moments. English Landing Park is always a flat, easy course. I don’t always have to watch for frozen mud. Normally this time of year it’s “wear gloves and a light hat” weather, not “consider taping your shoes so your toes don’t fall off.” I will probably have to retire this one after today, because the stitching has come apart again. It had a… wait for it… good run.

The kid at the finish line with me was ahead of me until the last 0.5 mile. I caught up to him and he said, “How can you run in all that?” I didn’t answer because I couldn’t really explain it was lightweight. Anyway, I passed him and rounded the last corner only to have him sprint at the last few yards and get centered in my finish photos. Go little man!
