Week 209, March 23: Just gonna stand there and watch me burn? (Liberty Half Marathon)

Today was hard. The KC running community woke to the tragic news that our beloved Scott Green, the Bearded Runner, passed away minutes into the day. Liberty is a tough, tough course. The last time I did the half was 2020, the week before everything shut down. It was my slowest time then, and it was again my slowest half. I’ve fallen a little behind on logging training miles, so I was glad to just finish. My right knee barked pretty loud the last few miles, but as many have said already, we felt our pain without complaining, knowing that Scott’s pain is finally over. There was a beautiful symbolism in the bright sun on the gold fabric, juxtaposed against the sadness we all felt. Maybe 165 minutes of torch songs was a bit too heavy for today after all. At least I was intentional about breaking up the standards and ballads with some more upbeat tracks. (I’ll try to post some memories and photos of and by Scott tomorrow). A couple solid photos from the course, but I seem to have caught the finish line photog on a 3 minute pause. Also, super proud of Mrs. Cosplay Runner, who walked a 5K with our mutual run friend. It was her first in many moons, but she’ll be back at it for Rock the Parkway as long as her blister heals.
