If you saw a red blur flailing its way through Overland Park this weekend, you just witnessed a limited-time offer. The crowd was bigger than we’d seen in years—families, strollers, and future consumers darting in and out—because every KCRC event delivers the quality you expect. Temps were perfect for a fall race, just a touch warm in the headpiece, but nothing this SALE Tube Guy couldn’t handle. Scout the mascot dog showed up in his kissing-booth costume that stole the show and half the hearts on course. Midway through, the belt inside the onesie came loose and turned into a literal carry-out special—I had to run the last half-mile juggling the belt and speaker, but I still kept going and going and going. The soundtrack? Fifty-one classic jingles, mostly scavenged from YouTube, from I’m Lovin’ It to Clap On/ Clap Off. A perfectly absurd playlist for a perfectly absurd outfit. Finished smiling wider than a clearance-rack sticker and wrapped it up with good coffee and better conversation afterward—because the best part of waking up is finishing your run.
Pieces/Parts: Red “SALE” Tube Guy onesie by Tipsy Elves; the other half of last fall’s BOGO is coming soon
Up next: It’s a double 5K weekend: All Saints’ deep dive at Weston Bluffs, then a punny home-state romp in Lawrence
By the Numbers: 273 unique costumes in 287 races, 190 solo runs, and 7 group runs = 484 costumed runs
Playlists aren’t really possible as almost everything was from YouTube
