I told everyone to follow me. Sadly, 948 of you did not listen. I got to be in plenty of pics, including finally being around when the official group photo happened. It was “gold brick down” after the shoot, though. I haven’t run the Garmin half marathon in 8 years, and this was my fastest of the Heartland 39.3 Series. Still worked for it. I very much wish that there had been more than a single port-a-loo at any given aid station, because I could really have used it. (Perhaps I was silver brick before all that?) During the race, I thought of at least 2 additional costume ideas for future years, so I guess I’m doing this race again and again for the next several years. For now, as my friends at the KC Running Company table said, “Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road.”
